A Study of Application of Intrinsic Motivation to Promote Commitment of Church School Teachers

교회학교 교사의 헌신을 촉진하기 위한 내적 동기의 적용 방안 연

     The purpose of this study was to find solutions through strengthening the intrinsic motivation of church school teachers, regardless of the condition of a local church and rapidly changing external circumstances of the church to promote their commitment. To this end, this study examines the necessity of studying intrinsic motivation, based on the suggestions from previous studies. It investigates variables related to intrinsic motivation and suggests several applications to promote their commitment by strengthening the degree of self-determination, which leads to intrinsic motivation. Suggestions with examples that teachers can specifically apply to teacher education are given considering autonomy, competence, and relationships which are psychological needs. This study also suggests to develop individual ways to promote their commitment according to careers, gender characteristics, and personal characteristics of teachers. It also suggests to develop appropriate compensation plans to strengthen intrinsic motivation, practical ways of identification, and integration of organization values by considering teachers’ motivation level.

A Study upon Christian Education for Forming the Koinonia of Local Churches towards God  ’s   Kingdom

하나님 나라를 지향하는 지역교회의 코이노니아(Koinonia) 형성을 위한 교육

     This is to study the directions of Christian education for forming Koinonia, insisting that local churches expose Koinonia reflecting God’s kingdom into the world as its post and that they show the ways working with society together. It is because the fact that God’s kingdom is the very place that the integral Koinonia among God, human beings and creatures is to be accomplished. To deal with it, first of all, here I have suggested the theological basis of local churches’ Koinonia, i.e., the Koinonia of trinitarian God perichoresisly based upon Moltmann’s Trinitarianism. Then I have analyzed the features of local churches’ Koinonia reflecting God’s Koinonia. Finally I have suggested the purpose, scopes, methods and leadership to form the local churches’ Koinonia towards God’s Kingdom.

A Study on Educational Leadership for the Authentic Community in the Future Generation 

미래시대 참된 공동체를 위한 리더십 원리 연구: 본 회퍼의 신도의 공동생활을 중심으로

     The artificial intelligence era has been coming. The fear and hostility toward machine, which were revealed in the Luddism of 18th century, will regenerate in the 21st century's artificial intelligence era. The fear for alienation and severance, which are the other sides of the artificial intelligence, has been increased. A number of jobs will be replaced by machine and the aspect of human relationship will be in jeopardy, along with the ones of knowledge and economy. Human beings, facing such crisis, will strive for an authentic community. In post-modern ear, people are so individualized and fragmentized that they lose interrelationship and connection. First, people pursue the community of sameness. Second, they want the place where they enjoy only with people that they feel comfortable with. Third, it is noticeable that they try to control the community with their own idealism. As a result of that, people who do not have the sameness are excluded, the space of heart that embrace otherness become narrower, and the insistence on one's own opinion causes the destruction of the community. Such an community is not authentic one, but an functional organization and association for their own interest. Church, which needs to be a true community, is not free from being a distorted community that is based on self-love and pursuit for interest. The authentic community is to recover the character of a good Samaritan and an innkeeper in Luke 10. Bonhoeffer suggests characteristics of a true community with an effort to realize it. For him, the community should be the community of alterity, not the community of sameness. It includes people of otherness, not allowing only those who have the biological or religious sameness, and motivates them to live a life of love, unity, and responsibility beyond various boundaries. Second, it ought to be a inclusive space, not remaining to be an individual one. Palmer, being in the same line as Bonhoeffer, stresses the circulative, interactive, and dynamic community of truth, not the linear, static, and hierarchial one. Third, it forms an dependent or spiritual community, not a mere emotional love community that excludes others. The formation of a spiritual community aims for interdependence with a strong will, not a pursuit of profit. For the realization of the authentic community, Bonhoeffer suggests incarnation, spiritual love of agape and prayer as a principle of leadership. By practicing these principles with educational intentionality, this paper seeks to form a true community that recovers human relationship, connection, and interdependence. Here are some suggestions. First, for the community of otherness, it is required to remember the incarnation of Christ and to practice Eucharist, which educates us to accept others. Second, for the space of embrace, the principle of the creational love, coming from the heaven, needs to be taught, educated, and practiced. Third, an alterative community should be formed for the communal existence and fellowship. Fourth, to construct the community that realizes three features above apparently, it is necessary to practice a daily discipline including thanks, praise, intercessory prayer, solitude, meditation, prayer, and intercession. 

The formation of such a community is possible when realizing an appearance and attitude of Jesus Christ, who overcame the world, rather then any plans and programs. When Jesus Christ functions in us and is embodied in us, the authentic community is possible. With these possibilities, the authentic community that Bonhoeffer pursued and lived will be expanded forming the space of embracing otherness.

Characteristics in the Genre of Revelation and their Application to Christian Education

요한계시록의 장르적 특성과 기독교교육적 적용 가능성에 대한 연구

     The purpose of this essay is to explore the characteristics of Revelation and to apply their meaing to modern church situation. Today few scholars doubt that Revelation is to be classified as an apocalyptic literature, but we still observe some unique features in the book which do not point to Jewish apocalyptic characteristics: John the author understands himself as a prophet and his work as a prophetic work in accordance with the Old Testament tradition. Our observations lead us to assume that the author was well informed of the fact that the apocalyptic literature except for the Book of Daniel was not accepted as Old Testament canon. This might serve as a background for John’s intention to weaken the apocalyptic characteristics and to legitimate Revelation by qualifying his work as prophecy. The hypothesis gains ground especially on the assumption that the Book of Revelation is to be understood as an ancient letter, where one might postulate actual author and reader as well as implied ones. The Revelation had meaning insofar as the actual reader shared some hermeneutical similarities with the implied reader, namely seven churches in Asia Minor. These exegetical observations, if applied to modern situation, point to following principles: First, the Revelation should not be interpreted as threatening message, but as consoling Gospel for God’s people in tribulation. Second, we need to utilize metaphors as much as possible, which create proper meanings for modern people, by placing a higher value on the author rather than the text itself, especially if we deal with convoluted text such as Revelation. Third, John’s Apocalypse should no longer understood as underground literature, but as revealing text which enables us to develop sound Christian doctrines.

Ageism and Educational Ministry for Babyboomers in the Church

연령주의와 베이비부머 세대를 위한 교회교육에 관한 제언

     This study explored what ageism is, how it appears in the society and church and how church’s educational ministry should look like for the new-old seniors and the baby boomer generation in this aging society. Ageism may not be practiced intentionally in the church but doing one size-fits-all types of ministry for seniors may be an unintentional practice of discrimination, thinking that seniors are just a group of people without considering individual differences and how socio-cultural and historical contexts in their formative years have shaped them differently than seniors in the past. A few suggestions were made for educational ministry for baby boomers. It is important to cultvate an intergenerational atmosphere in the church and make administration more sensitive and flexible to make easier seniors' access to and participation in programs. What seniors want is not a program but connectedness and a ministry of people in different life-stages. Concerning ego integrity, it should be attained in the context of the gospel. Baby boomers need systematic Christian education for Christian worldviews, life after retirement and vocation.

The Church’s Parent Education Focusing on Perception Change and Mental Health

부모의 인식변화와 정신건강에 초점을 맞춘 교회의 부모교육

     The purpose of this study is to examine the necessity to focus on the parents’ perception change and their mental health in the church’s parent education ministry. The current parent education in Korean churches is being delivered with an unbalanced emphasis  on the knowledge and the skills of parenting behavior. However, this study purports that churches should focus on the fundamental matters of parenting, which are changing parents’ perceptions about parenting and their state of mental health as the main figures in parenting. In this regard, three important issues to be dealt with in church’s parent education have been identified and discussed. Firstly, churches need to place the highest priority in helping parents build a Christian value system. Secondly, churches need to help parents gain a proper understanding about faith education in homes. Thirdly, the churches need to give more attention to the mental health of parents so that they can cope with the overwhelming burden of parenting.

A Study on the Problem of Education of Children in the Era of Post-patriarchy: 

Focus on the Psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan

‘탈가부장’ 시대의 자녀 교육 문제와 아버지의 역할: 자크 라깡 (Jacques Lacan)의 정신분석학 이론을 중심으로

     Focusing on the role of father in the era of post-patriarchy, this article asks what the absence of the role causes to the children on the basis of the theories of J. Lacan. To Lacan like Freud, the father is an agency of prohibition by which an infant stops the intimate relation with its mother and enters the society(or the symbolic), which is usually named 'Oedipus complex' process. Unlike Freud, however, Lacan approaches this process with semiology. Facing the threat of the father, the infant suppresses its desire for the mother and instead replaces it with things in the symbolic. Lacan finds the function of metaphor in the replacement process and he stresses that this make it possible for children to take root in the symbolic world and lead a normal life in his or her later life. If there is no threat and thus the infant has no experience of the metaphor, the infant hardly takes root in the symbolic and in return gets a significantly higher chance of developing psychosis. This chance would rise in the post-patriarchy era.

A Qualitative Study on the Experiences of Small Church Pastors and their Christian Education Ministry 

소형교회 목회자의 목회와 기독교교육 사역의 경험에 대한 질적 연구

     한국교회의 교세 감소 추세와 맞물려 한국 소형교회가 현저히 감소하고 있는 추세이다. 우려스러운 부분은 이러한 현상이 비단 양적 감소뿐 아니라 질적인 측면에서 우려할 만하다.  대형교회와 소형교회의 양극화 현상이 더욱 가속화 될 전망으로 한국 교회의 90% 이상이 소형교회임에도 불구하고 소형교회가 위축된다는 점이다. 본 연구는 이러한 위기를 극복하기 위한 기초자료 제공 측면에서 소형교회 목회자들이 경험하고 있는 목회 경험과 기독교교육사역의 경험에 대한 질적 연구를 하고자 한다.  본 연구의 연구참여자는 소형 목회경력이 5~25년인 목회자 7명이며 포커스 그룹 면접의 질적연구 방법과 소형교회 목회의 긍정적인 측면과 애로사항을 개방질문으로 진행하였다.  연구결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다 첫째로 연구참여자들은 소형교회에 대한 사회적 인식을 경험하였는데 소형교회가 가지고 있는 사회적 편견으로 성도와 지역사회의 관심으로부터 멀어지는 측면을 ‘한 영혼을 천하보다 귀하게’ 밀도 있는 신앙공동체 추구로 극복하고자 하였다. 둘째로 성도의 필요에 대한 고민으로 성도의 필요를 채우지 못하는 미안함과 갈등이 있었고 이에 대해 성도를 생활 밀착형 돌봄과 1;1 대면관계 집중으로 보답하고자 하였다. 목회자 가정에 대한 고민으로 경제적 난관과 자녀에 대한 미안함이 컸으며 이에 대해 자녀에게 목회자 자녀로서 소명의식과 리더십 훈련을 기회로 삼고자 노력하였다. 목회자 자신에 대한 고민으로 더딘 교회성장으로 인한 좌절과 탈진현상에 대해 ‘내 생에 안 올지라도’ 라는 의연함과 그루터기의 파트너십 구성을 모색하고자 하였다. 결론적으로 연구참여자들은 소형교회의 목회자로서의 사역의 난관이라는 현실적인 어려움을 역설적으로 하나님의 은혜에 대한 갈망의 통로로서 소형교회 목회자의 성장과정으로 인식하고자 하였다.

A Study of the Jesus Prayer's Application to Spiritual Education

예수기도의 영성교육적 적용에 관한 연구

     Today, people look to quench spiritual thirst, perhaps more than at any other time in history. The reason is that people in a modern society, those who are facing existential problems, are seeking their existential solution in spirituality. Korea is no exception. There are many spiritual methodological streams to find spiritual rest such as meditation with new age music, yoga, or nameless energy training. However, the Church does not give them, seekers, enough spiritual answer. If we Christians have spiritual traditions for this answer, what are they? Unfortunately, today, the One Church, which was established by Jesus Christ, has divided into countless denominations and sects. Each denomination and sect defines their own definition of spirituality and educates for each spiritual formation. How about relations with other religions in Korea? Korea and Oriental countries have come into conflict between Christianity and indigenous religions. In this age, which has many spiritual needs, we should pay attention to the Jesus Prayer as an answer which can be a common denominator and bridge of dialogue with other religions. Unfortunately, many people think that the Jesus Prayer is just a symbol of the Eastern Orthodox Church because of their denominational and theological limitations. However, the Jesus Prayer, which comes from 5th century, would have older traditional background than we imagine. It may be an early Church's tradition and comes from calling awesome God's holy name in biblical bases. As a method of meditation prayer, the Jesus Prayer, which was rediscovered by the Russian Church in 14the century, was brought into the spotlight again by Today's Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant Church.Therefore, in this study, I will explore this Prayer which has methodological characteristics of spiritual exercise such as simple, remember, repetition, freedom from distraction, and breathing by the spiritual educational perspective. In order to apply the Jesus Prayer, which deals with spiritual theology and church history, to the practical context, it first needs theoretical exploration. Thus, in chapter II, I will conduct a theological study about the Jesus Prayer. Examining historical, biblical, systematic, and practical theological bases, I will explore introductory understanding of the Jesus Prayer. In chapter III, in a more detailed approach, I will try to deal with educational analysis of the Jesus Prayer. In chapter IV, the final chapter, I will offer suggestions for the practical application of the Jesus Prayer in a Korean Context.

Historical Study on Educational Practice of Unitas fratrum: Focusing on Its Relationship with Comenius’Education

보헤미아 형제연합교회(Unitas fratrum) 교육실제에 대한 역사적 고찰 : 코메니우스와의 관계를 중심으로

     ‘Unitas fratrum’ is a small Protestant community which was born in the 15th century under the influence of the church renewal movement of Jan Hus of Czech. This Unitas fratrum was an important church community, having fought against the Counter-Reformation of the Roman-Catholic Church in association with Lutheran and Calvinist in religious wars between Catholicism and Protestantism, and had church-political, theological and educational heritage and influence. However, she has not received much attention in church history. It was above all because of her enormous educational efforts, that the Unitas fratrum was able to do function as a church-reforming and world-reforming church following the truth of the Bible in the constant persecution of the Roman-Catholic Church. Jan Amos Comenius, a great educational theologian, was born based on the educational efforts of Unitas fratrum. Her educational efforts resulted in the formation of Comenius
