Direction of Character Education in the Post-human Era: Application of Comenius’ Pansophism

미래시대(포스트휴먼) 인성교육의 방향: J. A. Comenius 범지혜론을 중심으로

     The aim of this thesis is to discuss what needs to be done for the humankind to maintain its humanity as it transitions to an era where machines can possibly utilize humans as an instrument instead of humans putting knowledge into instrumental use. To give further insight into modern Christian character education, it will first be discussed in the thesis on how Comenius’ pansophism can be referred to when criticizing the over use of instrumental knowledge in modern times, and how his theological thoughts on education can be used to suggest a theoretical framework for Christian Character Education in the present age. It is argued in Chapter II that pansophism is based on three assumptions: firstly, all knowledge comes from God. Secondly, pansophism is in a mutual relationship with totality. Thirdly, pansophism shows that the way to happiness and restoration of humanity lies in Christ. Also argued is that technical knowledge in modern science is instrumental, converged, and secular. Based on all the arguments does the thesis finally suggest that the direction of character education in post-human era should be towards shifting knowledge education into wisdom education, practical co-operation into relationship rooted in connectedness, education for the purpose of fulfilling ambition into education that saves life.

Influence of Parental Attachment Representation on the Religious Orientation of Christian University Students

     This study examines how parental attachment representation is influenced to religious orientation . With the data collected from 549 Christian university students in Seoul, Korea, the correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed in SPSS 21.0. Major findings are can be summarized as follows. First, a positive correlation was shown between the students’ mother attachment representation, intrinsic religious orientation. a negative correlation was shown between students' mother attachment representation and extrinsic religious orientation. the mothers' attachment representation were classified as positive attachment representation and negative attachment representation, and  the mothers negative attachment representation showed a statistically positive correlation with intrinsic religious orientation. However, there are no correlation between fathers' attachment representation and religious orientation. Second, students' mother attachment representation and negative attachment representation had a slightly significant influence on intrinsic religious orientation. The results reveal that mother negative attachment representation of Christian university students an important role in, and have a positive impact on their intrinsic religious orientation. This indicates that for mother is important to promote the Christian university student' intrinsic religious orientation. In conclusion, the psychological internalization tendencies can be said to be formed in complicated way with a personal level that distinguishes various aspects of life well, has dynamism, produces consistent morality, is inclusive, integrative, and essentially self-discovery. Base on these conclusions, it is necessary to investigate various factors such as family health, self- differentiation, emotion, and happiness, which serve as mediators of parental attachment and religious orientation.

Differences of Christian Daycare Teachers’ Perceptions Regarding Child Abuse by Personal and Religious Variables

     This present study was intended to suggest Christian preventatives to child abuse by analyzing Christian daycare teacher’s perception of child abuse as it is informed by personal and faith-related variables. The subjects were 225 Christian daycare teachers and directors. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, one- way analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Tukey HDS, as a post-hoc test. Results showed that psychological(character, anger management) problems scored highest, and were followed by grown-up backgrounds and their own abuse experiences, as causes of abuse. Regarding faith, Coram Deo Sprit  and Christian worldview are most important factors on child abuse. There were differences in child abuse perception according to the teacher’s age, teaching certificate, educational background, how long they had attended church, and extent of their church involvement. The most effective preventatives of child abuse suggested by study participants were parent education and mutual trust between parents and teachers.

Analysis and View of the NURI Curriculum ‘Healthy Dietary Life’Based on the Christian Worldview

     The purpose of this study is to present how to modify and apply the contents of the ‘healthy dietary life’of the Physical exercise and health area of NURI curriculum based on the Christian world view. For this purpose, the meaning elements were examined through the study of 'right dietary life'. In addition, it was extracted biblical passages related to dietary and health in order to view them based on the Christian worldview, and extracted biblical content elements applicable to 'healthy dietary life'. As a result, the healthy dietary life and contents of the NURI curriculum was secular humanistic and its contents were focused on physical and personal health, and had a materialistic perspective on environmental protection. However, the biblical view could be extended not only to holistic health and balanced nutrition for body and spirit but also to environmental protection as a cultural mission. These suggestions will be a basic data for early childhood christian teacher to view and practice the healthy dietary life of NURI, and it will be a useful model for other topics of NURI curriculum practice.

The Relationship Between Parental Attachment, Religious Coping, and Self-esteem in Korean-American Adolescents

     This study examined the relationship between insecure parental attachment, religious coping, and self-esteem with Korean-American adolescents, investigating the mediation effect of self-esteem on the relationship between insecure attachment and negative religious coping.  Two hundred sixty-one  Korean-American adolescents aged 12 to 18 from Korean immigrant churches in seven states completed the survey questionnaire to assess their attachment relationship with their mother and father, religious coping strategies, and self-esteem. Correlation analysis revealed significant correlations among the variables, and multiple regression analyses were used to detect the unique variance of father attachment in negative religious coping and the mediation effect of self-esteem on the relationship between insecure parental attachment and negative religious coping. A hierarchical regression analysis revealed that insecure father attachment did not account for a unique variance in negative religious coping after controlling for insecure mother attachment and self-esteem. Multiple regression analyses detected the mediation effect of self-esteem, but found no gender difference in the relationship between parental attachment and negative religious coping.

A Study on Christian Spiritual Education at Everyday Meal Table

일상의 먹거리를 통한 기독교영성교육 연구

     Eating is one of the most important factors for human life and also for spirituality. Bible says God gave the rule of forbidding the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Human, however, disobeyed the rule. For Israelite spirituality, God gave several rules about diet in their lives which related to their spirit. We need to recognize the connection between food and faith in the Bible and also in our daily life. For spiritual education in daily life through meal, I propose three suggestions. First is the gratitude and humility on life through recognition of meal(Jingi) and reflection on ingredient in food. Next is about preparing the meal table of life. For this, seasonal food and local food are needed in our daily table. There is also the responsibility for seeking safe food ingredient. Lastly, there is eating responsibly. Wendell Berry points out behavior of eating is like an agricultural act. It emphasizes the responsibility in eating. Sharing food is also connected to sharing life in Jesus’ ministry and today. Moreover ecological mind in eating is decisive for sustaining earth.

A Study of Christian Education Research Trends by Language Network Analysis

언어네트워크 분석을 활용한 기독교교육 연구동향 분석

     The purpose of this paper is to study a Christian education research trends through language net work analysis. The targets of this study are the research papers published in Journal of Christian Education in Korea and Christian Education & Information Technology. In terms of key word frequency, Christian Education, Church Education, Spirituality Education, Faith Community, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Child Education, Youth Education, Adult Education, Religious Education appeal more than 10 times. The key words related in practical research appear more than the key words related in foundational or theoretical research. The key words which show more than 4 time frequency are related comtemporary issues like Post Modernism and Character Education. In terms of betweenness centrality, the key words like Teaching and Learning and Post Modernism in Journal of Christian Education in Korea and Church School Teacher, Christian, Post Modernism in Christian Education & Information Technology show high ranking. “Christian Education”is researched relating with Christian School, Alternative Education and Character Education in Journal of Christian Education in Koreaas well as relating with Bible Education and Korean Church in Christian Education & Information Technology. “Spirituality Education”is studied relating with Wholistic Education and Post Modernism in Journal of Christian Education in Koreaas well as relating with Family, Society and Social Analysis in Christian Education & Information Technology. “Curriculum” is explored relating with Multi Cultural Education and Peace Education in Journal of Christian Education in Koreaas well as relating with Education Ministry, Church and Worship in Christian Education & Information Technology. “Teaching and Learning” is researched relating with Multi Media and Christian University in 『Journal of Christian Education in Korea 』as well as relating with Information Society and Post Modernism in Christian Education & Information Technology.

 A Study on Local Community Care and Service Leadership training for Church Renewal:

 Focusing on the Servant Leadership School of the Saviour Church

     This paper is a study on the renewal of the church through social care and service in the age of weakening social trust in Christianity. This paper pointed out that Christianity is a cause of social anxiety and jealousy for the growth ideology of church and the church. It is Criticized that this ideological and pastoral attitude influenced the expansionist exclusive community and it is becoming a doctrinal, institutional, selfish, and idolatrous church. As a result, there is an aggregation in the church, but it has not formed a congregation that participates in the community and learns and practices the divine life of the Trinity God. To overcome this problem, we have trained the life of solidarity, hospitality,  love, caring, and service beyond the boundaries of each other and the other, the true life of Jesus, not Jesus at the center of selfish churches as a growth ideology and institutionalized religion We must practice. Through the study on Church of the Saviour in Washington, DC, USA, the practice of doing this is the exploration of the various ministries, the meanings and practices in them, and the six core principles are required for leadership in service, prayer(sanctification prayer), Bible study(hunger for justice), Faith community(life style formation for Christian), Vocation(loving God and neighbor), A relationship that is free in the community(belonging Church and Christian), and Spirituality(trinitarian spirituality, perichoresis) in the community. In addition, studied how to apply the leadership of service in accordance with the situation and environment by examining the educational process and training of the Good Shepherd Church - good community, which is an example of servicing and serving the community through the leadership training of Saviour Church in Korea. 

While there are many seminars and strategies in the era of church and ministry crisis, the leadership training of the servitude Church of the Saviour provides paradigm shifts in education ministry and leadership. First, it is the balance between spirituality and ministry in which the journey toward the inside and the journey toward the world are manifested. Second, it is not a personal fellowship but a balance of individuals and communities that form deep relationships in God with saints and neighbors. Third, with the eyes of Jesus' love and compassion, we look at the community, entertain and invite strangers, and balance church and community.

Considering these three points of application for church renewal, conducting leadership training over an exclusive boundary will enable the church to survive and restore social confidence, which will depend on the future, and lead to a healthy church leadership and revival that will lead the times.

The Relationship Between Prayer Types and Happiness Among Korean Christians

한국 기독교인의 일상생활 속 기도 유형이 행복에 미치는 영향

     The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between prayer types and happiness among Korean Christians. The participants in this study were 351 adults recruited from private universities, graduate schools, and adult education centers located in Seoul and Daejeon. It conducted frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. As a result, various independent variables such as gender, marital status, period of faith, and church attendance influenced differently on their prayer types and their level of happiness, optimism, and hope. Happiness and hope were significantly correlated with all prayer types, and the significant predictor of happiness was thanksgiving prayer. Findings of the study provided implications for the development of programs in Christian educational practices.

Proposal of a Church Education Program for the Everyday Life of Working Christians

일하는 그리스도인들의 일상을 담아내는 교회교육 프로그램 제안

     This article aims to propose a church education program for Christians working in the marketplace who seeks to understand thend practice the meaning of faith and work in their work places. Many Christians simply do not know what and how to do in their works. However, everyday routines are not neutral field that is irrelevant of faith, but the ultimate target of our ministry that reflects the holy purpose and grace of God. Several para-church organizations recently have tried to provide programs for working Christians. They are helpful for Christians to practice faith in the works. However, they face some problems to apply and transform work and the culture of business, because they are not strong in their theological foundations. I will try to suggest “a marketplace theology program” that follows the basic structure of above programs but supplements their weaknesses. My program is based upon two theological foundations: creation theology and the theology of the cross of Jesus Christ. It is composed of eight subjects such as work as vocation, fall of work, salvation of work, ethical work, discernment of vocation, money issues, keeping Sabbath, church and work. These subjects are the most urgent struggles for Korean working Christians to be dealt with for the successful everyday life of working Christians.
