Methods of Educational Ministry for the Recovery of Disconnection and Alienation:
Parker Palmer’s the Community of Truth

The purpose of this paper is to explore the methods for the recovery of disconnection and alienation in the educational ministry. It will focus mainly on Parker Palmer’s method of community of truth. The core problem in the Korean education system today is the emphasis of "banking education" for college entrance. This form of education causes inhuman competition and the cultivation of disconnection and alienation among the education community. This limited knowledge-oriented standard of education rely on generalization, objectivism, individualism, dual epistemology and the lack of critical thinking. Palmer emphasizes that the spiritual and communal aspects of education will lead to the recovery of community and will provide mind, emotion, spirituality in holistic education. He proposes to form a community of truth in order to get off the “myth of objectivism”, which depends on a radical separation of the knower and the known.” Four main points are outlined when developing a community of truth for the recovery of disconnection and alienation in educational ministry. First, we analyze the elements of myth of objectivism to help understand the cause of disconnection in communal life and alienation of individual. Second, we examine the possibilities of knowing, teaching and learning in community of truth. Third, we establish a process for the community of truth by examining and reflecting on the stories of Rosa Parks’ transformation of education and John Wesley’s spiritual movement. Finally, we present practical methods and a curriculum model for the recovery of disconnection and alienation in educational ministry.

Moltmann’s Theological Impact and Influence upon Korean Christian Education:
Centering on Presbyterian Church in Korea(PCK)

This essay is a study dealing with the influence of Moltmann’s theology on Korean Christian education in the late 20th century. First of all, I discussed the impact of Moltmann’s theology of Christian education in the United States because Korean Christian education is very closely related with it. Then I concentrated upon the studies of Christian education Scholars who influenced Korean Christian education. After that, I suggested some strong and concrete points in what aspects Moltmann’s theology influenced Korean Christian education. It is true that Moltmann’s theology expanded the aim of Christian education into the dimension of God’s Kingdom and that led to holistic education of faith. In addition it awoke the facts that Christian education gave emphasis upon vibrant life, fellowship and public responsibilities and that it made happen to the education for God’s creation world from human-centering education.

A Possibility of Christian Education Utilizing Multimedia Creation

The purpose of this study is to investigate an effectiveness of multimedia creation education in Christian education. In recent, multimedia has been widely used in church education. However, it has been passively used in a way that audiences simply watch edited multimedia video clips in the worship or Bible study. Therefore, it is necessary for church educators to actively use multimedia with learner centered perspective in order to create positive learning environment and draw a meaningful educational outcomes. For this purpose, the researchers educated ‘Scratch program’ to college students and tested programing ability, computational thinking, interest, and the degree of satisfaction. Result showed that multimedia creation education was an effective learning method to grow multimedia creation ability. There was a statistically significant mean difference in self-programing ability (t=3.382, p=0.001) and self-computational thinking (t=4.255 p<0.001). Result also showed that multimedia creation education facilitated student’s interest and satisfaction on the program (interest, M=4.40; satisfaction, M=4.45). Lastly, multimedia creation education affected user’s actual use intention of the program as an effective Christian educational method. Based on the results, Christian educational implications are made.

Nurturing Christian School Educators

Since 1990s, various forms of alternative schools have been established due to the needs for alternative education of Korean society, and around 2000, based on Christian educational philosophy, Christian alternative schools began to spring up. Since then, the number of Christian alternative schools has been rapidly increasing in the Korean society. But the number of well-rounded teachers who would serve Christian alternative schools is insufficient in reality. Accordingly, Korean church, Korean Christian higher education, and all who are engaged in Christian alternative school education in Korea have an obligation to nurture sufficient number of Christian school educators of good quality and good Christian faith. In serving such an obligation, this research asks and answers for the questions of "why, what, and how" of nurturing Christian alternative school teachers, and suggests three future tasks regarding those as follows. (1) The purpose of nurturing Christian alternative school teachers is to raise and produce teachers who are called by God, filled with the Spirit, held in Christian maturity, and intellectually well-prepared. (2) Christian alternative school teacher nurturing program needs to deal with the calling as a Christian (alternative school) teacher, mature spirituality and character, general knowledge about education and teaching methods, ability to integrate the Christian worldview into each subject, and comprehensive introduction to Christian alternative schools in Korea. (3) Christian alternative school teacher nurturing program takes a model of "certificate program from ACSI and ACSI Korea" and a model of "certificate program through existing Christian higher education," while expecting future establishment of teacher's college or university exclusively for nurturing Christian alternative school educators. (4) For better nurturing Christian alternative school teachers, there are to be more interests and supports from Korean churches and seminaries, practical infra systems, and consistent and diverse teacher education programs.

The Development and Effects of a Re-education Program for the professional Qualification
Reinforcement of Christian Early Childhood Teachers

The purpose of this study is to develop a re-education program for the professional qualification reinforcement of Christian early childhood teachers, and to apply this program and prove its effects. The ultimate goal of the development of a program for the qualification reinforcement of Christian early childhood teachers is to lead Christian early childhood teachers to the place of dedication to God. In order to attain this ultimate goal, the developed program was prepared on the basis of relevant literature, analysis of existing research, and the results of a survey of the level of demand. The developed program was composed of purpose and goal, education contents, teaching and learning methods, and the area of assessment. For proving the developed program, 40 Christian early childhood teachers (20 teachers in an experimental group, 20 teachers in a comparison group) working at infant education institutions in Seoul were selected. The developed program was offered to the experimental group for a total of 20 hours for 8 weeks throughout 8 sessions. Meanwhile, the program was not applied to the comparison group. In order to prove the effect of the developed program, the study conducted a pre-and-post test of efficacy of Christian early childhood teachers and a test of satisfaction with education. Data was analyzed with ANOVA using the SPSS program. And the experimental teachers'assessment journals, discussions, presentation materials of impression undertook a qualitative analysis. The result of this study, developed program for the professional qualification reinforcement of Christian early childhood teachers improved the efficacy of Christian early childhood teachers. Also, it brought about change in progressive perception of Christian early childhood teachers about Christian early childhood education. In addition, the program received a positive assessment in terms of satisfaction with education of the entire program. Accordingly, the re-education program for the professional qualification reinforcement of Christian early childhood teachers implies that it will help in strengthening the professional qualification of Christian early childhood teachers.

A Qualitative Study on the Conflict Experience by Christian NGO Multicultural Managers

The mail purpose of this study was to explore the conflict and difficulties NGO multicultural managers while carrying on their duties in multicultural NGOs through qualitative research methods and skills. Qualitative research was chosen as the research method for answering the research questions empirically, and research technique used was interview. The researcher interviewed managers to explore the conflict and difficulties. Data were collected through interview, analyzed mainly centering on episodes, and read repeatedly for more detailed examination. A total of 8 managers participated in this study and were interviewed. They and I were found to experience conflict with the religious bodies related to views on ‘calling.’ The religious bodies called them as businessmen to ignore their calling. and We were found to experience conflict with financial supports from religious bodies. After experiencing this conflict, Managers decided to learn and read in spite of tight life. We were found to experience conflict with a heavy workload handed by religious bodies. This study showed that media and scholars need to deeply understand the manager's views on education. moreover, they need to be understood by society. and insisted that control tower and round table which provide outsourcing learning program, human reassures, and financial support to help them. overcome the conflict in NGOs.

A Study on Beginning Child Education Evangelist's Adjustment in the Church

A Comparative Study on Religiosity of Christian Women and Men in Korea

Church in 21st century seek to play the role of salt and light of the world led by laymen. However, the gender biased structure of ministry at churches and feminization of christianity have been raising concerns over poor men ministry. One of the reasons might be the globally and historically universalized perception that women are more religious than men. Historically, women have been even more devoted to practices of faith than their counterparts. Therefore, the author examined if there is a difference in faith and faith maturity by gender among Korean christians and looked into what practical faith of women means, in particular, using a quantitative method, in order to propose desirable directions for laymen ministries in a balanced manner at church. Research questions to this end are: First, is there a difference in religious conviction by gender? Second, is there a differences in faith maturity by gender? Third, is there a connection between practices and faith maturity by gender? To test these question, the author carried out a Shepherd scale and Religious orientation scale for 448 Korean christians who go to churches of diverse denomination located in the Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. Finding from this study based in research questions above are as follows: First There was no gender superiority regarding religious conviction in Christian faith. From the previous literature or general views about religiousness of women. it is assumed in general that religious acts of women are better than men and therefore, women have an active and stronger faith. Second, there was no gender superiority about faith maturity in Christian. Korean believers, both men and women, tend to be more intrinsic, only with no big difference from extrinsic. This shows that faith is the goal and means of their life at the same time. Nevertheless, there was no significant difference between gender and faith maturity.Third, faith maturity appears to be different style between men and women in Christian faith. When it came to women, as they were better at practice, no matter how weak, immature faith decreased. This result reveals that practices if women and immature faith are mutually related. In other words, practice of Christian doctrines by female christian in Korea so far was possible as an expression of faith and the source of faith maturity. However, for men, it was found that putting faith into practice or knowing Christian doctrines was related to mature faith only, but did not affect immature faith.

The Study of Factors affecting the College Students' Intention to Decide Dropout of Christian College

This purpose of study examined intention to decide dropout in college students and adjustments factors to college life affecting their decision of dropout. The subjects were 1,689 freshmen. Data were collected through structured questionnaire and analyed with SPSS 19.0. The statistical methods used for data analysis were descriptive statistics, t-test and logistic regression analysis. The results of analysis were as follows. First, ‘academic persistence,’‘social integration,’‘professor-student interaction,’ ‘career identity’ and ‘college life satisfaction’ were significant according to dropout plan it was found that ‘career identity’ and ‘college life satisfaction’ influenced their intention to decide dropout.
