Bibliodrama as New Approach to Christian Education

The purpose of this study is to explain and analyse Bibliodrama, which is yet unfamiliar to Christian education field in Korea. Bibliodrama is a contemporary approach taken by Christian education responding to today’s social demand, empathy and communication. It is a form of a Bible study through unscripted role plays of stories from the Bible. It is a creative and spontaneous learning process aiming the interactional communication between the Scripture and men as well as connecting the past to the present. Besides, it suggests a slow reading of the Bible in order to resist the flow of the fast-moving culture in this era. From the hermeneutical perspective, Bibliodrama is considered as events of the biblical stories reformed by men, participating in the production, who are already engaged to the dramatized environment of the biblical stories and experiencing them as if their own stories. Bibliodrama is focused more on so-called “white fire”(interlinear space) of the texts where men can find meanings than on so-called “black fire”(letter), objects of the traditional interpretation. In this, Bible is an empty space of meaning of the text which can be filled up by the participants. It tries to integrate human soul and body to make an holistic faith and holistic personality. After all, we could name hermeneutics of Bibliodrama as hermeneutics of trust. From this perspective, the Bible is God’s Words that it always stands above men's interpretative capability. Regardless of the limitation of our understanding about the Bible, we could enter existentially and passionately into the biblical world through Bibliodrama.

A Study on Psychoanalytic Counseling Education for Parents: Based on F. Dolto's Psychoanalytic Understanding of Child

This study aims to explore the possibility of psychoanalytic counseling education for parents, especially, based on Dolto's psychoanalytic understanding of child. Firstly, this study examines the necessity and possibility of encounter between counseling education for parent and child psychoanalysis. It needs to understand child position in psychoanalysis and also, the characteristics of child psychoanalysis. Furthermore, it leads to get more informations about theory and practice in child psychoanalysis. Secondly, Dolto's understanding of child according to her main ideas of child psychoanalysis would be considered for showing her characteristic perspectives of child psychoanalysis. Thirdly, the three tasks of counseling education for parents would be suggested like these: to understand their children as a subject of desire; to communicate with their children by true language; to discipline their capacity of communication. As a result of this study, psychoanalytic counseling education for parents from the perspective of Dolto's child psychoanalysis will help the parents who face great confusions and difficulties for edu-caring their children in the 21century. Further concrete curriculum and practical programs of a counseling education for parents should be developed by the perspective of Dolto's child psychoanalysis. The specific contents and professional programs are able to facilitate psychoanalytic counseling education for parents. In addition, training the experts from the perspective of Dolto's child psychoanalysis can activate psychoanalytic counseling education for parents. For this, the concern and support are required necessarily in the level of ultra-denomination and pan-academic.

The Evaluation of Christian Character Education Curricula for Young Children

This examination was conducted because the April 16, 2014 Sewol ferry disaster was a portrait of our times: the collapse of values and a human-nature crisis. Not only society, but also schools have difficulties with violence, bullying, addiction, and suicide. On July 21, the Act for Promotion of Character Education was enforced in public education. Clearly, a study of this Character Education program is timely. This study specifically aims to analyze the Christian character education programs for young children, with the sub-objectives of developing an evaluation tool, and through quantitative and qualitative methods, evaluating three Christian curricula of: Saemmul Christian School, Good Tree Character School, and Jubilee(Bittubaro). The researcher met the developer or the person in charge of each curriculum, retrieved information from websites, and collected data from each visit and curriculum texts. Eighteen evaluation criteria were determined after a content validity test by four experts. Using these criteria, two evaluators analyzed each curriculum. Furthermore, these same evaluators performed a narrative evaluation. Based on these measures, the evaluators suggested the use of more accurate Bible stories or Bible verses, practical applications for character development(refrain from the use of study book form), a connection with family and provision of developmentally appropriate practices.

The Investigation of Children and Adolescents' Behavioral Problems and
the Probe Study of Parenting Counseling with Psycho-Educational Approaches

This research asserted that the psycho-educational parenting counseling approaches are needed to treat the behavioral problems of children and adolescent clients. Three parenting education programs, such as parents' behavioral change, parents' internal change, and children's behavioral change are main classified programs in Korea. However, there are little parenting education programs to deal with the changing of children's behavioral problems, and classify the children's internal-external problems. In this reason, this research is a trial of making new psycho-educational parenting counseling model. This study applied the statistical analyses to classify children's behavioral problems into the internal-external problems. And children's common behavioral problems are academic problem, ADHD, family conflicts, and relationship with friends regardless of internal-external problems. The parents should be given the REBT and educational direction, assignment, structured role playing techniques to help the children's internal behavioral problems. These methods could refute the beliefs of illogicality and irrationality. To amend the children's external behavioral problems the parents should be given systematic desensitization, interactional strategy, community discipline, reality therapy, transactional analysis, and behavior modification methods. These methods also obstruct children's continueing delinquencies. In result this research found out the parents counseling and education model should be differently applied depending on the children's behavioral problems.

Christian Higher Education and Service-Learning

The purpose of this case study is to find the better way to adopting Service-Learning(S-L) as an effective educational method of higher education in Korea. An innovative method may be well adopted when it is accord with the educational purpose and philosophy of the university. In 2001, S Women's University began to develop S-L programs related to major classes with the project fund from the United Board for Christian Higher Education. In 2005, S Women's University built the support system and secured budget for S-L as 1 credit course related both to major classes and to liberal arts ones in various fields. In spite of fears and worries from some groups about this change, the other groups in the university community have kept adopting S-L in their classes with patience and belief that S-L is accord with the educational purpose and philosophy of this university, that is Christianity. This case of successful adoption of S-L could be a challenge for other universities to reflect on their identities and educational purposes and to attempt to adopt S-L or any innovative ways to educate our next generation better.

Personality Education in the Perspective of Trinitarian Theology

The Purpose of this paper is to search for alternative personality education based on the Christian belief that humans are made from the image of the Triune God. In order to find the devine image or devine Personality from which humans are created, we look for the unity between the immanent Trinity and the economic Trinity. The perichoretic unity of the immanent Trinity proposes that the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are persons because each exists for the others, through the others, with the others and in the others by the logic of love and freedom in God’s authentic self-communication. However, the divine reality that they are persons in the immanent Trinity cannot be separated from our experience that the divine Community of the triune God in the economy is personal. The triune God is always personal because God ceaselessly turns toward humans and creatures in order to share God’s eternal communion of love with them. The personality of the triune in the economy God enables the Father, the Son and the Sprit to be truly persons who intrinsically turns toward others. The most important insight helpful for us to understand human personhoods in light of the Trinity is the fact that God’s inward` movement for manifesting Godself and God’s outward movement for relating to others is integrated and inseparable. The integration in this inward-outward movement shows us that we also realize our inner personhood and become a real person as we move toward others to make ethical relationships with them. According to Immanuel Levinas, the relationship with exteriority is “prior” to one’s own relation to oneself. In other words, responsibility for the relationship comes “prior” to ‘Being.’ For Levinas , the face of the “other” is the original site where the radical otherness is expressed. Putting myself in the place of the other by whom I am summoned and singled out, I realize my singularity and unique personality in relation to others, fulfilling my meaningful existence and legitimating my “right to be” in the world. In order to help people of faith to fully grow as persons, it is important that religious communities should relate themselves to others in larger societies, especially to the poor and the oppressed. The Communities must stand willing to be challenged and disturbed by the different interpretations or stories of others and thus, become responsible for their existence in social contexts.

A Study on Teachers’ Intention to Utilize Social Media: Focusing on the Use of Church Schools

The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of variables on teachers’ intention to use social media in church schools. To examine the impact, this study investigated impact variables related to teachers’ intention to continue using social media to discover a comprehensive model for relationship among the valuables. In this study, perceived easy of use, satisfaction, perceived usefulness, and attitude were adopted as variables, and the intention to using social media for teaching was adopted as a dependent variable. Data from 296 teachers were collected using structured questionnaires. Analytical results indicate that satisfaction directly exert significant influence on teachers’ intention to using social media for teaching in church school. In addition, perceived usefulness positively exert significant influence on teachers’ intention to using social media for teaching in church school. This study produced additional practical implications.

Research on Spiritual Well-being and Resilience of Christian University Students

This research aims at analyzing differences of spiritual well-being and resilience depending on general backgrounds of the Christian university students, correlation of spiritual well-being and resilience, and influence of spiritual well-being on resilience for the purpose of finding mutual relation between spiritual well-being and resilience of the Christian university students. For this purpose 335 objects of the Christian university students were administered to the Questionaries of general background, the scales of spiritual well-being and resilience; The frequency analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and simple regression analysis were carried out for the collected data by using SPSS 17.0 Program. The results are as follows; Firstly, average scores of spiritual well-being and resilience of the Christian university students show increases of statistical significance in response to the general backgrounds composed of age, the number of worship service, quiet time use and the status of conviction for salvation. Secondly, high correlation of statistical significance is shown between the total score of spiritual well-being and resilience. Thirdly, the 42.8% of resilience can be explained by spiritual well-being, and its effect is statistically significant. The research results will be utilized as a fundamental data for the development of Christian education program in order to improve resilience of Christian university students.

The Study of Adaptation to College Life in Single Parent Family

This study aims to examine the effects of adaptation to college life between Christian university students and non Christian ones. In order to prove it, 2000 male and female students in 2-year colleges in Busan and Kyunggido Christian University were collected. Collected data was analyzed through percentage analysis and t-test using SPSS Win 19.0 statistical program. The results of this study were as follows. First, the lever of college life adjustment of Christian students was higher than that of non Christian student. Second, the lever of college life adjustment of single parent family was higher than that of intact family. Third, the highest level group of college life adjustment was revealed separated family and Christian students. Based on the result, this research suggests that the intervention and review is necessary in order to improve college life adjustment of single parent family and Christian students.

Multicultural Competence of Teachers for Character Education of North Korean Adolescent Refugees

The goal of character education, which is newly emphasized due to the discord between character and intelligence as well as school violence and bullying, is to inculcate values, attitudes, and skills in students in order to build positive relationships with others. The number of North Korean adolescent refugees has greatly increased as the number of North Korean refugees has drastically increased in South Korea. Their school dropouts, however, require an alternative educational approach. The main reason for their dropouts is their special background and experiences. Through character education equipped with Christian love and serving, North Korean adolescent refugees will learn to be responsible to family and community and to be good individuals and useful citizens. Christian alternative education can embrace them with a flexible curriculum and the multicultural competence of teachers, combined with Christian love and dedication. Teachers play a crucial role because they are a point of contact for students. If teachers practice an understanding of multicultural competence as a way to realize students’ potential as image-bearers of God, the following results should be expected. First, the relationship between teachers and North Korean adolescent refugees will enhance students’ academic accomplishments and give self-confidence for their further growth. Second, the North Korean adolescent refugees will settle in South Korea as citizens and function as human resources for the task of the unification of Korea. To achieve this goal, we have to, first, establish areas of agreement in public opinion; second, expand the base of the program by implementing character education in the school, church, and the local community arenas; and, finally, continue to obtain and invest in human and material resources with a long-term point of view in mind.
